Thank you for choosing HMC Generators. The installation of your new Generac generator is a process of many steps, and we are here to guide you along the way.
This guide helps keep you up to date on each phase of installation you are in and makes the transition to the next phase as easy as possible.
Permits And Scheduling
After all permits are received, we will put you in line to get started. All scheduling is done on Wednesdays for the following week only. We will call you on that Thursday to schedule an official date and time for your generator foundation.
Concrete Slab And/Or Stand
We will set the foundation of your generator. You do not necessarily need to be home for this, but you are always welcome.
Generator Set
We will set and anchor your generator to your slab or stand. We will also remove any excess concrete that was used on the day the pad was poured. Occasionally, the installation will be done the same day.
Installation Day
We will mount the transfer switch and install all necessary gas pipe and electrical wire. Depending on your install, this could be done through the attic, underground, or along the wall. Your gas and electric will be turned off for your security, as well as our employees. The power outage time is typically under an hour, but could be longer depending on the job. Someone will need to be home to give access for relighting hot water heaters and installing necessary carbon monoxide detectors.
COE
If needed, the final COE will be requested from the surveyor on the day of installation. Once the surveyor submits the final COE to us, we will send it to the permitting office for review and schedule inspections. This process generally takes 1-2 weeks.
Inspections
Inspections must be done by each permit office and are typically completed the same day or within a day or two of the install. The inspector will check to make sure the generator is installed to Generac specifications and building code. Once we receive notification that inspection has passed, we will either notify you to call your gas company or call to schedule your startup.
Gas Meter Upgrade
If a gas meter upgrade is needed, our install coordinator will contact you about calling your gas company and what you will need to tell them. Once the gas company has upgraded your meter, call the office to let us know the upgrade is complete.
Startup And Orientation
This is the final step in the installation process. A technician will come to your house to activate, run, and test your generator. We will orient you on working the generator and answer any questions you may have.
